Matthieu Despeisse, PhD

Matthieu Despeisse is Group Leader in CSEM, in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, where he is leading the research activities on new generations of Solar Modules. His work focuses on high performance, high reliability, circularity and a large range of applications and integration of photovoltaics (PV; from mainstream photovoltaics to building integration, mobility/transport as well as Agrivoltaics). He received his degree in electrical engineering from INSA, Lyon, France, in 2002. He then worked until 2008 at the European Organization for Particle Physics (CERN) in Geneva, Switzerland, focusing on novel Ssilicon radiation sensors and electronics. He obtained his PhD degree in 2006 for his work on new generation silicon sensors. He then joined the IMT PV-lab of EPFL in 2006 to lead the research team working on multi-junctions thin film photovoltaics technology. In 2013, he started the crystalline silicon solar cells and metallization activities in CSEM, leading this activity until 2021. He started to head the PV modules activities in 2018.

Simone completed a PhD in Theoretical Particle Physics with focus on numerical and analytic computational methods at ETH Zürich. His education and professional stations include the University of Milano, Stanford, DESY, and Durham. Nadia Khan, MD

Nadia Khan is a practicing neurosurgeon and Professor at the University of Zurich. She specialized in cerebral revascularization-bypass techniques in Zurich and abroad and has spent over 25 years managing children and adults with cerebrovascular diseases, one of them mainly being “moyamoya angiopathy”. Her passion in this field has led her to be a pioneer in stroke prevention and all-round clinical care of these patients. She established two highly specialized and internationally recognized centers of care, one at Zurich children’s hospital and the other one for adults at the university clinics in Tübingen. Ongoing research topics of interest include raising awareness in child- and adulthood stroke along with understanding the pathophysiology of this angiopathy. Juergen holds many notable board memberships, including with BIO Deutschland (Association of the Biotechnology Industry Germany), DECHEMA (Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology e.V.), and as a member of the Board of Trustees of MPI (Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology). Matthias Erb, PhD

Matthias Erb is a Professor in Plant Science at the University of Bern and an entrepreneur. His research led to the discovery of new functions and effects of bioactive plant metabolites in crop production, biological control and microbiome modulation. Simone Schürle is Assistant Professor for Responsive Biomedical Systems at ETH Zurich and is researching in the field of biomedical micro-and nanoengineering.
During her studies at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology with specialization in micro/nanosystems, she researched at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, about automated drug infusion and control, and at the University of Kyoto, Japan, in the field of carbon nanotube based nanosensors.
She then joined the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Systems at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) where she focused on magnetic manipulation techniques for biomedical applications. She was awarded with the ETH medal for her doctoral thesis and with fellowships from the SNSF, DAAD and the Society in Science for her postdoctoral studies at the Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she was researching as postdoctoral fellow from 2014-2017.

André Hugentobler

André Hugentobler is the Global Innovation Director for Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants, and Elastomers (CASE) at Trinseo, responsible for developing and implementing the division’s innovation strategy worldwide. He brings to the table over sixteen years of experience in commercial and technological-facing roles with expertise in advanced materials.
André began his career with the Dow Chemical Company working across the EMEA and DACH (Germany, Austria, Switzerland) regions, as well as Australia and New Zealand. In 2010 he became Market Development Manager for Asia Pacific with the Dow Chemical spin-off Styron, later rebranded Trinseo. He subsequently went on to assume Global Commercial Manager and Global Technical and Business Development Leader roles, with focus on commercial applications of advanced materials including glass fiber, adhesives and sealants, and functional nonwovens. His own product expertise is in water-based polymers, nanomaterials, and synthetic rubber.

Tilo Huehn, PhD

Tilo Hühn is a food architect, and professor at the Zurich University for Applied Sciences in Waedenswil, Switzerland, where he heads the Center for Food Composition and Process Design. He holds degrees in biology, Viticulture and Oenology, as well as in Organizational Psychology and Digital Business. His research focuses on regenerative process engineering, analytical science and technology of aroma components, bioactive substances and value-determining ingredients. Together with his team and in collaboration with other stakeholders, he creates, varies, expands, and reproduces the information pathways to explore functional solutions for the food world. Tristan is a 3D Printing and Advanced Materials expert. He’s an academic, but also an entrepreneur at heart. Growing up in a family business specializing in metal processing, he set to co-found his own company HoGroTec after finishing his PhD at Leibniz Universität Hannover. HoGroTec offers 3D Printing-as-a-Service that facilitates the onsite-processing of plastic pellets used for components and small series. A novel technology with a patent pending enables the high precision and speedy production of plastic parts based on pellets. The company also offers 3D printing services via their own online platform. Tristan holds a bachelor in general engineering science and a masters degree in product development, materials and production from Technische Universität Hamburg. Liqtra GmbH rents out 3D printers including a proprietary process planning software solution that enables the onsite-printing of plastic parts. These are required for the manufacturing of product prototypes and of technical tools for production and medical application. The company utilizes a novel technology with a patent pending that drastically reduces process times. Before founding his company, Joscha did research on the development of lightweight components at TU Braunschweig’s Institute of Aircraft Design and Lightweight Structures. Previous to this, he worked as an engineer for conveying technology at Fraport AG Frankfurt. He did a doctorate on the topic of optimization algorithms in the development of lightweight composite structures. He lives and works in Hamburg, Germany.

Andres Gujan is the co-founder of Carnot Capital, an asset management company specialized in the energy transition and the circular economy. Lars Jaeger is a Swiss-German entrepreneur, scientist, writer, financial theorist, alternative investment manager. He is the author of numerous books on subjects of science and technology as well on hedge funds and a frequent speaker at industry conferences.
His writing focuses on two areas: finance and science. In his scientific writing, Lars' focus is on the history of science, the interplay of science and spiritual traditions, how science shaped and continues to shape our modern society, quantum technologies, and how the ongoing technological revolution unfolds itself. He writes a bi-weekly blog on scilogs.de and larsjaeger.ch. In finance, he has been an influential voice in the hedge fund industry fostering developments towards more transparency, liquidity, and cost efficiency.
Lars is currently Head of Alternative Risk Premia at GAM. Before that he was the founder and CEO of Alternative Beta Partners in Zug, Switzerland, that targets the extraction of alternative beta as a cost-efficient way of accessing hedge return sources.
He studied physics and philosophy at the University of Bonn in Germany and Ecole Polytechnique, in Paris and holds a doctorate degree in theoretical physics from the Max- Planck Institute for Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden. Lars has taught at several universities over the years (European Business School, Goethe-Universität Frankfurt, ETH Zurich, Zeppelin University Friedrichshafen, etc.)

Johannes Meuer is Associate Professor of Sustainability Strategy and Operations at Kühne Logistics University (KLU) and Director of KLU’s Center for Sustainable Logistics and Supply Chains. Johannes also serves as the President of GRONEN (Group for Research on Organizations and the Natural Environment), a prestigious scientific association dealing with various dimensions of management and the natural environment. Before joining KLU, he worked at ETH Zurich where he received his habilitation in 2021, and previously at the University of Zurich.
He holds a PhD from RSM Erasmus University, and an MSc in International Economics from Corvinus University Budapest. Johannes works at the intersection of corporate sustainability, strategic management, and technological innovation focusing on how firms may effectively integrate sustainability into their strategy and business operations. Complementing his research, Johannes develops innovative skill-building programs for executive and post-graduate training in the field of Sustainable Management and Operations.

Joern Hoppmann is Full Professor and the Head of the Management Research Group at the University of Oldenburg. He holds a PhD in Management from ETH Zurich (Switzerland) as well as a diploma (eq. to MSc) in Business Administration and Mechanical Engineering from the Braunschweig University of Technology (Germany). Prior to and during his time in Zurich, he held positions as research fellow and associate at Harvard University (Cambridge, USA), and as visiting researcher at the University of Hamburg (Germany), IMD Business School (Lausanne, Switzerland), and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Cambridge, USA). Joern’s research centers on questions at the intersection of strategic management, sustainability, and innovation, specifically focusing on the energy, mobility, and IT sectors.
John Orthwein

John is the Head of Blockchain and Decentralized Finance at i.AM Innovation Lab. He is the MakerDAO Ambassador for Switzerland, a systems auditor for the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), a founding member of MAMA, Multichain Asset Managers Association, and the former Head of Risk Engineering for the Melon (now Enzyme) Protocol.
He worked for over 10 years in the investment management industry with liquid alternatives at LGT Capital Partners, and before that, as an analyst at Man Investments. Previously, John was a software engineer developing distributed, high- availability enterprise systems for pension funds and companies such as SUN Microsystems, PIMCO, State Street, Allianz, and Lufthansa Systems. He studied economics, statistics, and languages, and holds MA and BA degrees in economics from Miami University.
John continues to be active at the intersection of blockchain and asset management, contributing, consulting, and auditing the code and smart contracts that help make open, decentralized finance a reality.
Sebastian Guenther
Innovation Consultant and Business Strategist at Accenture
Sebastian Guenther is an innovation consultant and business strategist at Accenture, who leads the Innovation & Design Unit in Switzerland and heads Accenture Ventures in the DACH region. His more than 10 years expertise is in identifying, developing and implementing new business models, products and services, and technologies, with particular focus on big data. In his role at Accenture, he has helped clients to establish multiple digital businesses and led them to success.
Sebastian also has broad knowledge and is engaged in the European fintech and startup ecosystems and emerging financial services landscape, i.e. as one of the co-founders of the Swiss FinTech Award program. He is a strong proponent of open innovation, collaboration, and creativity as a source of value creation. Previously, Sebastian was Strategic Product Manager at IBM where he developed 360° go-to-market strategies for their hardware and software business and supporting the business pipeline for analytics solutions.
He holds a BA in Business Informatics from Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg and the Open University London.
